Rivet Stains
Rivet Stains
October 1996
In the early stages of excavation triangular brown stains could be seen in a number of places. Three of these are shown below and I believe they show the position where rivets were located. These were rust brown in colour:

The first is dead center of this photograph but has not come out very well due to the colour tempreature of the film used.
The following two photographs show the triangular stains in a much better light.

The last photograph shows the position of what I have called a rivet, which came away in the process of excavation. All the iron had been replaced and there was no magnetic response. The indentation can be seen and the original surface appeared slightly domed.
